My biggest fear about moving to California has been earthquakes since my wife first meantioned that she wanted to move here. Living in New York the biggest issue we had was snow and you could easily see it coming depending on the time of year.
Last night I got my first taste of what an earthquake will feel like. At first I thought truck was driving by or something else noisy was oustide. Except the noise didn’t fade it stayed constant for a good 10 seconds or better. Car alarms were going off dishes were ratteling, the thought of an earthquake quickly came across my mind. I grabbed my daughter who was sitting next to me and held her tight. Even after it was over I held her tight and stared at my wife, silently debating if it was over.
Later I learned that it was a 4.0 (some reports say 4.2) and was located about 7 miles southeast of where I am. Nothing serious however enough to rattle me for the rest of the night. Now I am thinking about being a little more prepared, as in reading to learn more about this particular earthquake I found one place that says in the next 30 years there is a 99.7% chance that we will have a 6.0 or higher
